    Mechanism of production of age spots(melanin<\/a>)<\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    The skin consists of the epidermis and the dermis, the epidermis consists of four layers: the stratum corneum<\/a>, the granule layer<\/a>, the spine layer<\/a>, and the basal layer<\/a>, in order from the surface. Melanin<\/a> is produced by pigment cells (melanocytes<\/a>) located in the basal layer<\/a> between the epidermis and the dermis and is transported to nearby epidermal cells. Age spots are formed by the accumulation of melanin<\/a> in the epidermis and are caused by prolonged exposure to UV light or by disturbances in the metabolic rate (turnover) of the skin.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
