NF-E2-related factor 2

NH-E2-related factor 2 is the body maintains homeostasis by regulating the balance between oxidation and anti-oxidation, and the Nrf2 transcription factor is one of the factors responsible for this maintenance function. It has been shown that it is activated by substances that oxidize and attack biological macromolecules such as DNA and proteins to enhance transcription of target genes and protect cells in various aspects.

The word is derived from ὅμοιοστάσις (means ‘identical state’) in Greek.
